From the Ashes, Rebuilt
Contentious Syndicate was founded in 2018 on one idea: build a network that operates on the edges of known space, where information is currency and reputation opens doors credits can't.
It was an idea a little ahead of its time — and when the 'verse quieted down, so did we.
We didn't stay quiet forever.
Today, Contentious Syndicate is public for the first time in its history. Same phoenix. Same drive. A sharper edge.
What We Are
We're not a corporation. We're not a militia. We're a syndicate — and we mean that literally. We operate a little outside the lines, chasing opportunity wherever the 'verse points us: combat, mining, salvage, hauling, crafting, med-evac, and yes, piracy, when the moment and the story call for it.
If there's content to make in the 'verse, we're the ones making it.
How We Fly
We don't hand down rigid rules about what ship you have to bring. What we do have are doctrines — practical, lived-in guidance on what works well together for a given mission, built from real experience (including a few lessons learned the hard way). You choose your role. We just make sure you know how that choice fits the bigger picture.
We run constant operations across every playstyle, so your ships — and the crew to fly them — always have somewhere to go.
Same welcome. We run one of the highest multi-crew ratios around, so you get the capital-ship experience without the capital-ship commitment.
Leadership Without the Bureaucracy
Sets the Syndicate's direction.
Take that vision and turn it into doctrine — fleet strategy, long-range planning, and groundwork for what's coming next.
Take that doctrine and put it into motion — the day-to-day leaders and spokespeople who keep operations running and make sure every member has a seat at the table.
It's a light touch by design. When an operation kicks off, everyone knows their role and who they answer to. The rest of the time, it's just a community getting things done together.
Legacy in the 'Verse
We've been shaping the story of the 'verse longer than most people realize.
Officially, no one ever claimed the Kesselring heist. Unofficially? Look closely at the wreckage footage, and you'll find a familiar mark on the wing of that Gladius.
Our founder is the voice behind Paul Shelley's JumpTown Wars — the narration that introduced thousands of Citizens to the chaos of JumpTown, later referenced on CIG's own site. He didn't narrate it from a distance — the Syndicate fought the JumpTown Wars, and the Founder is a veteran of that crater.
We ran some of the first organized "cargo-search operations" at the gateways — that's the official term for it. Stop, inspect the hold, wave you through if there's nothing worth the trouble. And if there is — well, that's why we're contentious.
We're Not Exclusive — On Purpose
Plenty of orgs treat membership like a locked door: pick one, stay loyal, don't look elsewhere. That's not us. The Syndicate thrives on shared knowledge, not gatekept ranks. Fly with other orgs, run with friends outside the Discord, take what you learn here wherever you go — we'd rather build a stronger 'verse than build higher walls.
Join Us
Getting in is simple. Hop in the Discord and you'll get access to our associate channels right away. When you're ready to commit, open a ticket and we'll bring you in for a real conversation — no forms, no ceremony, just people who want to know if you're a good fit.
Full members get a real seat in the Syndicate: a voice in ops, access to our command channels, and a shot at a member spotlight — we don't hand those out, they're earned.
